James Hardie Siding Cost

What does Hardie board siding cost to install. Hardie board is sometimes called 'fiber-cement' siding or 'concrete' siding. It is made from cement and fiber. It is much stronger than vinyl siding, looks just like real wood but with less maintenance. It is great for areas where weather is hot and humid. It is rot resistant, wind resistant, and termite resistant.

Because it is heavier than vinyl, it requires more labor to install. It will run around $10 per sq foot to install.

So, in simple terms, if you have a 2,000 sq ft house expect pricing in the neighborhood of; $10 x 2,000=$20,000.

Some of the factors that will influence the overall price will be things like;

  • How many stories do you have. It costs much more to install on the second and/or third floors.
  • How many corners on your house. Corners require much more labor than straight walls.
  • How many windows and doors you have. They much be framed around. That requires more labor.
  • What is the condition of the existing walls? Do you have rot or insect damage to the wood?
  • Are you going to paint it before or after you put it on?
  • What time of the year is it? Contractors are more busy in the spring and summer so the prices will be higher.
If your walls look like this you will need to remove old siding first.

Remember that a contractor must replace or repair all damaged existing wood around the house before he can install new siding. That includes facia, soffit, and any rotted wood.
